This woman could
save a life one day.
She’s decided to
be an organ and
tissue donor.
Maybe you have too.
Does anyone need to know?
The people close to you.
Why?
Because in the end they will
be asked to give the final OK.
OK?

Hello there. I recently visited
Better Homes and Gardens
in
the US, and it’s just wonderful
Better Homes and Gardens
in America
is a
magazine with a great deal of very interesting history,
and it’s just enormous. The roots of Better
Hom es and
Gardens
can be traced to a sister publication called
Successful Farm ing
magazine, founded more than
too years ago, which was a wedding present from one
bride’s father to his new son-in-law. The gift came with the instructions, ‘make
a go of it, son!’ So the young Ed Meredith stood on street corners and sold
subscriptions with a great deal of success. Then his young wife thought that the
good women on the farms might enjoy a little gardening content included in
their husbands’ magazines. And they sure as dammit did!
With
Successful Farming and Gardens
proving to be so popular,
there followed the idea that perhaps a home decor addition to the magazine
might prove appealing as well - and the rest, as they say, is history.
Successful
Farm ing
went it alone again and is still a leading agricultural magazine in America.
And
B etter Hom es and Gardens
has now long been one of it’s three top-selling
magazines. It sells an astounding 7.6 million copies a month. And it also produces
a cookbook year after year, which has sold an astounding 40 million copies since
it was first published —
that’s a great many cookbooks! Along with the mother
magazine, there are some 120 special-interest titles sold each year, including every
facet of decorating, gardening, food and craft you can imagine. And one of the
most exciting claims to fame is that during the design of a special
B etter Hom es
and Gardens
house years ago, one of the designers came up with the idea that the
family should spend more time together in the home, along with Mom in the
kitchen.
.. and thus was born and named the ‘family room’. I love that!
Better Homes
in the States is dedicated
to giving its vast amount of
readers great ideas, inspiration and information, which is what we love giving you
here. I visit often and every time I love it. Right now, like in this issue, knitting
for the home is huge. And no surprise, chocolate goodies rank right up there
with America’s favourite food. But amidst all this, while the good people of the
US adore their
B etter Hom es and Gardens,
I hope you, good people of Australia,
adore your
Better Hom es and Gardens
as well. Because right now Honey, I’m a
tellin’ y’all, we lerv helpin’ you make your home and garden just swell. Enjoy!
